Blues and Rhythm Show 245 on 93.3 CFMU (Hamilton, Ontario)

Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, May 21st (10:00 to 12:00noon)

Looks as though we might fill the morning slot in CFMU’s Tuesday schedule at least for a while.  We had technical difficulties related to a CD burner so some of our preparations for this particular show were unexpectedly last-minute. The program featured some R&B circa 1950 and a lot of late 1930s-turn of the decade  blues. Also some gospel groups as opposed to quintets and quartets and a taste of soul. You can no longer hear the show live but you can stream or download.

On the Show:

Johnny Otis with Mel Walker – Chris Powell & His Five Blue Flames – Ellen McIlwaine – Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson – Hot Lips Page – Lewis Bronzeville Five – Peetie Wheatstraw – Rosetta Crawford – Lead Belly – Roberta Martin Singers – Alex Bradford – Betty Harris -James “Thunderbird” Davis – and others

Listen to the program at FM 93.3 in Hamilton, live on Cogeco Cable 288 or on CFMU online at cfmu.msumcmaster.ca. The program will be available to stream or download until July 9th. Blues & Rhythm Show Back on CFMU, 93.3 in Hamilton, Ontario – May 7th, 10:00-12:00

Filed under: Uncategorized — cmcompton @ 9:20 am

Swear to Tell the Truth is a “blues” show that includes and extensively features classic R&B and delves into Gospel, Soul and to other musical genres that intersect with the blues tradition. Our emphasis in blues is on the original blues traditions. We play music from as far back in history as the 1890s through to the current era. We do feature some of what is promoted as blues today but we make no claim to cover the contemporary blues field in any comprehensive way.

Swear to Tell the Truth: the Blues & Rhythm Show is returning to the airwaves and broadband for one week at least. A new edition of the show will air on Tuesday, May 7th. If things work out positively we may be returning to doing the show on an ongoing basis.

There are any number of blues programs available around the world and you can explore and sample them on the internet. We think that what we have done in the past is fairly unique and, if anything, our playlists on the show will explore the blues tradition more deeply and on a wider plane than the last series did.

Watch for a further announcement soon about our comeback program…
