Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, January 26, 2021 (10:00 to 12:00 noon)

In the second half of this week’s program we devote time to a feature on the Paramount label, the label of Ma Rainey, Ida Cox, Blind Lemon, Blind Blake, Charlie Patton and Skip James, to name just a few of the artists who appeared almost exclusively on Paramount. This is the third of a series of features profiling Paramount and it covers a period that begins in 1925 and ends before the fall if 1926. Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, January 5, 2021 (10:00 to 12:00 noon)

On our first program of 2021 we draw from a couple of recently released albums, one of which contains live material not known to have been preserved and another that traces the career of a figure neglected by reissue companies up to now. If we compiled best album lists these sets would warrant consideration. Otherwise, we have a program with blues from the 1950s and later, pre- and post-war Western Swing, and Gospel, mostly out of Chicago.

On the Show:

James Wayne – Ernestine Allen – Buddy Guy – Ike Turner & the Kings of Rhythm – Billy Branch – Stephen Barry Band – Alfie Smith – Whitehorse – Bob Skyles & His Skyrockets – Jesse James & All the Gang – Norfleet Brothers – Rev. Robert Ballinger – Patterson Singers – Jesse Anderson – and others.
