A look at the Bear Family set R&B in DC. This collection covers 20 years of recordings by artists who came from DC, settled in DC and made records there–although it really begins in 1945 and ends in 1960. We look at the earlier period. Also on the program, a survey of what was known as the Excello Sound, recordings out of South Louisiana emanating from Jay Miller’s Crowley studio but issued on Nashville’s Excello label. Also on the program, Blues from Greenwich Village and Gospel from Houston’s Peacock and Songbird labels.
