Blues and Rhythm Show 247 on 93.3 CFMU (Hamilton, Ontario)

Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, June 4th (10:00 to 12:00noon)

After four weeks in the Tuesday morning 10:00 slot the program becomes official in the CFMU schedule this week. We’ll be here at 10:00 Tuesday mornings in the coming weeks. We may consider a change in the schedule in the fall but we’re going to try to make this timeslot work for us.

As this will be our first show not as a fill in for Out With It, which previously occupied this place in the schedule, we’re going to use the June 4th program as a survey-showcase of what we will be doing on the show week to week.

Blues, Rhythm & Blues, Soul and Gospel on this week’s show–R&B from 1949 to 1954, Blues from 1934 to 1950, Soul from several famous studios in the south and Chicago and Gospel from the “Golden Era” and later. With the two-hour format in the morning, we will likely present more of a magazine format rather than long features but we won’t know for sure until we work with the two hour

On the Show:

Eskew Reeder – Ricky Allen – Lalo Guerrero – Five Royales – Memphis Minnie – Lonnie Johnson – Walter Davis – Sue Foley – Magic Slim – Johnnie Taylor – Erma Coffee – Brother Joe May – Inez Andrews & the Andrewettes – Sojourners – and others

Listen to the program at FM 93.3 in Hamilton, live on Cogeco Cable 288 or on CFMU online at the CFMU website. The program will be available to stream or download until August 6th. CFMU podcasts now available for 8 weeks. Couldn’t be easier. Just go the website, bring up the playlist and stream or download the show.

Blues and Rhythm Show 119 on 93.3 CFMU (Hamilton, Ontario)

Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, February 18, 2014 (1:00-2:30 pm)

We left a few loose ends so we’re going to round off our Bob Geddins feature of last week. Also on the program, a couple of tracks from the Galaxy label (L.A. blues from the 1960s). We have some live blues and gospel tracks; “raw American gospel” from a Tompkins Square compilation that appears to be out-of-print now; preachers and one-time quartet leads on the Nashboro label

On the Show:

Dexters – Jimmy Nelson – Ray Agee – Clarence Green (Sonny Rhodes) – Mainline – Harrison Kennedy – Missionary Mamie Sample – Reverend Willingham – Johnnie Taylor – and others

Listen to the program at FM 93.3 in Hamilton or on CFMU online at cfmu.mcmaster.ca. The program will be available to stream or as a podcast until March 17th.

Next week (February 25th)

Next week we’ll present some pre-World War 2 blues in some kind of feature yet to be determined.  In two weeks, it will be Fundraising Week at CFMU. That will be March 4th for this program. We hope some of you will show your support for the station and the program, including those who might listen online. (That’s also Fat Tuesday, so we will not be able to present a Mardi Gras program this year.) February 11th will be our annual all-woman show for International Women’s Day. Fundraising prevents us from putting on this show in advance of I.W.D.

Blues and Rhythm Show 79 on 93.3 CFMU (Hamilton, Ontario)

Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, May 14, 2013 (1:00-2:30 pm)

We’ve been playing a few records from Nashville lately. We’re going to play a few more on Tuesday. Also on the program, some very appealing gospel quartet records made between 1947 and 1956 by groups who were pretty well known in their time but not mentioned today among he leading groups from the golden era.

On the show:

Gatemouth Brown – Roscoe Shelton – Charles Walker –  Jackson Delta – Donna Rhodes – Holy Ghost Spirituals – Highway QC’s – Radio Four – Johnnie Taylor – and many others, of course.

Listen to the program at FM 93.3 in Hamilton or on CFMU online at cfmu.mcmaster.ca. The program will be available to stream or as a podcast until June 11th.

Next week (May 21st)

Nothing definite, as yet, for May 21st. We have tentatively planned our Alan Lomax special for May 28th. But we’ll update you. That’s going to be a lot of work.

No word yet about the  CFMU app, which will allow people to listen to CFMU programs on mobile devices. Station management confident it is on the way.  Might even consider a Blackberry Q10 ourself.

We’re late getting this out and accidentally published it before it was ready. Don’t know if Twitter will send out a new notice. We shall see.
