Blues and Rhythm Show 186 on 93.3 CFMU (Hamilton, Ontario)

Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, June 30th, (1:00-2:30 pm)

This week we go to air the day before Canada Day, July 1st. It was known once as Dominion Day but we threw off that vestige of our colonial past. This is not a program that specializes in Canadian blues-oriented music. Week to week, we concentrate on aspects of the history of blues, r&b and soul in the classic years and we play recent or contemporary music when we judge the music connects with something in that classic tradition, whether the music comes from Canada or elsewhere. Other blues-oriented programs are more up-to-date and more expert about newer music that is placed in the blues category. We play some of what those other shows play and a lot we don’t.

Notwithstanding anything stated above, we will be playing only Canadian music on June 30th. Some of the recordings are more current. Others go back a few years. A lot of Canadian artists have gone deep into the music and found something of what is essential in it. We play those artists when we find their music and this week we turn the entire 90 minutes to Canadian recordings.

On the Show:

Kendall Wall Blues Band – Little Miss Higgins – Harpdog Brown – Sue Foley – King Biscuit Boy – Amos Garrett – Paul James Band – Jackson Delta – Michael Jerome Browne – and others

Listen to the program at FM 93.3 in Hamilton or on CFMU online at cfmu.msumcmaster.ca. The program will be available to stream or as a podcast until July 28th.

Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, December 31st, 2013 (1:00-2:30 pm)

Our New Year’s Eve program is already in the books, to coin a phrase. We failed to have a description of the program in advance this week. If you go to the CFMU website the program you will find is a mixture of mostly up-tempo blues and R&B, with a few soul tracks along the way. A lot of music from Chicago, a bit of post T-Bone Texas blues, a few East Coast tracks and some current and some older local recordings.

On the Show:

Elmore James – Red Prysock – live Hound Dog Taylor – Kendall Wall Blues Band – Lester Williams – Guitar Nubbit – Lula Reed – live Magic Sam – Lou Pride – King Biscuit Boy – and many others

Blues and Rhythm Show 95 on 93.3 CFMU (Hamilton, Ontario)

Swear to Tell the Truth for Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013 (1:00-2:30 pm)

This coming week is Welcome Week on the McMaster Campus. We’ll be broadcasting live from the ground floor lobby of the McMaster Student Union Centre. Just as CFMU introduces new and returning students to the role of the radio station in Welcome Week , so,  this edition of Swear to Tell the Truth will be our attempt to introduce new listeners to all that we do week in and week out on the program. Because of the venue, emphasis will be greater on the music than on any commentary. We’ll have a mix of Blues, R&B, Soul and Gospel on the show (no filler), including tracks showcasing Eddy Clearwater and Matt Murphy, slated to appear at Hamilton Place September 27th along with Sugar Blue and Alvin Youngblood Hart.

We’ve also unwisely volunteered to fill a vacant hour of programming before The Blues and Rhythm Show on Tuesday. Not sure what we’ll do with that hour. Something we have to figure out tomorrow.

On the Show:

Lou Pomanti – Eddy Clearwater – Deitra Farr –  Jo-Ann Kelly – Big Maybelle – Nappy Brown – Kansas Joe & Memphis Minnie – Casey Bill – Kendall Wall  Blues Band – Betty LaVette – Inez Andrews

Listen to the program at FM 93.3 in Hamilton or on CFMU online at cfmu.mcmaster.ca. The program will be available to stream or as a podcast until October 1st.
